KEEP THOSE LETTERS TO SENATE AND OBAMA FLOODING IN!

2000+ IN FIRST 24 HOURS!

BUT WE NEED A LOT MORE…

December 4, 2009
THANK YOU to everyone who sent a message to your Senators and President Obama over the past 24 hours–way more than 2,000 messages already have gone in.

But we need a lot more than that…

Here’s one reason why: Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) is one of three Senators trying to lard the climate bill with billions of your dollars for nuclear power, for “clean” coal, for more offshore oil drilling. Graham’s interest isn’t climate–it’s bailing out how the big energy interests.

Here’s what Graham said yesterday following a personal meeting he had with President Obama:

“The president told me personally he was very open, that nuclear power would be part of the mix, that clean coal would be part of the mix, that he’s for offshore drilling in a responsible way,” Graham said today in describing his Oval Office meeting with Obama.

Here’s another reason, from today’s trade publication Platts: “CONGRESS IS LIKELY TO PASS LEGISLATION BOOSTING BY $20 BILLION an existing $18.5 billion nuclear power plant loan guarantee program and include other incentives for the industry, energy lobbyist Robert Talley said December 3. There are four finalists for the current $18.5 billion in loan guarantees; Talley, a principal of Talley & Associates, said he represents three of the projects. Legislators could include additional incentives for research into small modular reactors and domestic nuclear manufacturing capacity, Talley said.”

Let’s make sure all of our voices are heard to counter the nuclear, coal and oil lobbyists!

*If you haven’t sent your message to your Senators/President Obama yet, please do so here.

*Please forward this Alert, or this link, to everyone you can: http://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/5502/t/5846/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=2303

*Please post on your networking sites, blogs, Twitter, everywhere you can. It’s vital that we reach out to everyone possible.

*If you haven’t yet signed the International Don’t Nuke the Climate petition, please do so here.

*And get ready for National Call-In and Action Days, December 11 and 12. Please call your Senators (202-224-3121) on Friday, December 11, and let us know if you or your group are planning actions on December 12.

We need as much activity as possible now–before any deals are made to boost the nuclear industry at the expense of a safer, cleaner, cheaper energy future.

Thanks for all you do,
